Man accused of trying to abduct 5-year-old watching sea lions in Astoria

Police say a man from Idaho allegedly tried to abduct a 5-year-old girl while she watched the sea lions in Astoria, Portland with her family on Monday morning.
The girl's father said he was watching the sea lions with his children around 11 a.m. when a stranger approached his 5-year-old daughter and asked her to leave with him.
The quickly intervened and thwarted the would-be abduction.
The suspect, 29-year-old Robert John Miller of Rupert, Idaho, was found on a nearby dock and arrested for attempted kidnapping.
"The parent in this situation immediately recognized the problem, engaged others in the area to help him and kept an eye on where the man went. A witness snapped a photo of the suspect while another called for help. That was a great help to our officers in locating Mr. Miller," said Astoria Deputy Chief Eric Halverson.
