The Australian government’s proposal to hold a national vote on legalising same-sex marriage has been defeated in the upper house of parliament.

The government said a non-binding ballot, or a referendum was the quickest way to amend the Marriage Act.

Same-sex couples can have civil unions or registered relationships in most Australian states but they are not considered married under national law.

Opinion polls indicate that most Australians support same-sex marriage.

However opposition parties and many supporters of same-sex marriage argued a referendum would be expensive and could unleash a divisive campaign.

Marriage equality has proved a tricky issue for Prime Minister MALCOLM TURNBULL. He is personally in favour of same-sex marriage but is reluctant to allow his own MPs a free vote on the issue.

“You cannot treat the Niger Delta region with disdain while you treat your brothers that are terrorists and kidnappers Boko Haram like kings and queens by committing the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement from Geneva to witness your transaction with them before they released their hostages to you.” End of quote.

Close friend of the Delta runaway bride reveals why she ran "She saw her true love in the reception and decided to follow him"

A close friend of runway bride, Roseline, 32, who ran away during her wedding reception in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State a few months ago, has revealed why she ran away. Speaking to Vanguard, the close friend who didn't want her name mentioned said the lady left because she saw her true in the reception and decided to follow him. For real? Really?

“I believe she did what she did because she saw the previous man in her life at the reception. We heard that he had earlier promised to marry the bride, but he later traveled to Lagos and never showed up again. When the bride waited for a long time and he (former suitor) was nowhere to be found, she decided to marry another man, who was ready although she still loved her former suitor. So when her true love showed up at the reception without notice, the woman saw him and decided to call it quits with her husband to follow her heartthrob.”
