Abuja rail project awarded without design, MoU – Chinese firm

The Project Manager of Chinese Civil Engineering and Construction Company, Etim Abak, on Monday told the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory  that former President Olusegun Obasanjo awarded the Abuja Rail Project in 2007 without engineering design or Memorandum of Understanding.
The Minister of FCT and current governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, allegedly signed the  $841.645,898 contract based on uncalculated estimate.
The committee was also told  that the contract, which stood at 60.67km, was inflated by $10m  per km and that the length was later reduced to 45km without refund of the cost for the 15.67 km that was dropped off from the project.
The Senate committee, led by Dino Melaye, who were at the site of the project to carry out oversight functions,  therefore demanded the refund of $195,878,296.74  being the amount for the 15.67km that was cut out, from the Chinese firm, which is handling the project.
Abak told senators that the contract was signed by the then FCT Minister without design and MOU, and that it was carried out based on  conceptual design.
Abak said, “The contract was awarded based on conceptual design and estimates were not properly done. There was no formal design submitted and rail bridges and crossover bridges were not captured in the contract.”
Melaye said his findings revealed that rail project was inflated by over  $10m per km and wondered why such act was perpetrated by the handlers of the project.
The senator added that the contract sum was $841.645,898 and that the project completion period was 48 months while the scope of work was 60.67km standard gauge, with double railway tracks  and associated permanent way within FCT.
He wondered why the 60.67km project was later reduced to 45. 245km without reduction in its  cost which was initially paid for.

Jonathan’s ex-ADC refuses to name N10bn beneficiaries

There are indications that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission reached a dead end on Saturday in its interrogation of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s ex-Aide-de-Camp, Col. Ojogbane Adegbe.
Our reliably learnt that the former ADC insisted on the presence of his lawyers during the interrogation by the operatives of the commission.
It was also gathered that Adegbe, as he did last week, refused to name the beneficiaries of N10bn he allegedly got from the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The money was said to have been diverted by the ONSA, under the stewardship of Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), from the Signature Bonus Account in the Central Bank of Nigeria.
An operative of the EFCC, who was part of the interrogating team, said, “We have not made any progress. The man is insisting that he can only make statements in the presence of his lawyers. He has also refused to name the Peoples Democratic Party chieftains who benefited from the N10bn.”
Another source explained that the EFCC decided to detain Adegbe and two other personnel of the Army since no lawyer was available to be part of the investigation.
The source added, “The man, I mean the former ADC to Jonathan, is still being detained by the men investigating the $2.1bn arms deal.
“The operatives are asking him to mention how much he received from the former NSA and to provide a list of politicians who received the funds from him but he has not done so. He is with two others.
“He requested that he could only make his own statements in the presence of his lawyers.
“So, the operatives investigating the case, decided to keep them (suspects) over the weekend.”
Adegbe was arrested in Lagos on Wednesday last week and taken him to the Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja where he was interrogated by some senior military officers.
Our reliably gathered that he was arrested in connection with the ongoing probe into the alleged arms procurement scandal.
It was learnt that the former ADC and seven other serving army officers were handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission at noon on Thursday.
Investigations revealed that the former ADC was undergoing a National Defence College course in one of the military institutions in the United Kingdom.
A source, however, said he was recalled and arrested by the personnel of the Military Police and Directorate of Military Intelligence on his arrival in Lagos on Wednesday.

Power supply drops by 1,589MW

Power supply to households and businesses across the country has plunged by 1,589.69 megawatts since the nation achieved its peak generation of 5,074.70MW on February 2.
Electricity supply on Sunday, February 14, dropped to 3,485MW from the 3,558.39MW generated that day, data obtained from the Federal Ministry of Power on Monday showed.
Power generation and supply stood at 4,150.64MW and 4,068.5MW on February 11, according to the Presidential Task Force on Power.
On Monday that officials at the ministry said on Sunday that issues around gas pipeline rupturing by vandals as well as oil theft had led to a plunge in power generation.
They, however, noted that the Federal Government was working tirelessly to address the problem.
The recent dip in electricity generation came after the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, had promised that the country would increase its power production by 2,000MW before the end of this year.
He stated that given the various plans undertaken by the present administration in the sector, power generation would increase by 2,000MW in the last quarter of this year.
Fashola stated that a lot had changed in the management of power in Nigeria in recent times.
“Distribution of power is no longer a government business but has been taken over by private companies. Also, government has privatised power generation, which has steered towards the full privatisation of the sector with transmission aspect being managed by Manitoba International of Canada,” he had said.

Cameroon hands over suspected Boko Haram terrorists to Nigeria

The troops of the Cameroonian Army have handed over two suspected Boko Haram insurgents to their Nigerian counterparts along the nation’s border with the francophone country.
The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement on Monday that the troops of 26 Task Force Battalion, and Cameroonian Forces, also rescued  112 captives of the Boko Haram during a joint operation at Kirawa Junction.
He said that the rescued comprised eight men, 36 children and 68 women.
Usman said that the Cameroonian troops also assisted the Nigerian soldiers in de-mining a section of the road between Kirawa and Pulka.
He added that the both armies did not have an encounter with the Boko Haram during the operation.
However, the Acting Army Spokesman said that a Cameroonian officer died, while eight soldiers sustained injuries when their vehicle ran into an Improvised Explosive Device buried along the Pulka-Ngoshe Road.
He said that the officer gave up while he was being evacuated to Douala by air.
Usman also said that the troop of the 113 Battalion on patrol to Ngwala, cleared Boko Haram camps at Ngorta and Aritimie villages.
Usman stated further that the troops seized two vans and 12 motorcycles from the insurgents when they abandoned the items during a raid on a market.
He added that the market suspected to be giving supplies to the Boko Haram had been closed down indefinitely.
“The cooperation with our neighbours has brought renewed vigour and is yielding fruitful result in the fight against the Boko Haram terrorists,” Usman said.
“For instance, apart from recording tremendous success, troops of 26 Task Force Brigade, have married up with Cameroonian forces for joint operations in Kirawa junction.
“Although they have not met any of the terrorists in the axis of advance, they rescued eight men, 36 women and 68 children in the area.
“To further consolidate the cordial relationship, the Commander of Cameroonian 1st Battalion, paid courtesy call on his counterpart, the Commanding Officer of 121 Task Force Battalion in Pulka.
“The visiting unit assisted with the demining of a section of the road between Kirawa Junction and Pulka and handed over two suspected Boko Haram terrorists to the Nigerian unit.”

Baby Gbadeyan's death: Ayodele Medical Centre releases statement

Ayodele Medical Centre has reacted to reports that went round last week about a 6 months old baby who died in their hospital on Feb 6th. The family of the boy blamed the hospital for his death and alleged that they seized his corpse and put it outside near a dustbin (Read here ). Below is a statement from the hospital...

The management of AYODELE MEDICAL CENTRE views with great concern the false publication making the round in both the social and print media since Monday, the 8th February 2016 on the unfortunate demise of Master Oluwamurewa Gbadeyan on 6th February 2016.

We share in the grief of the parents, Mr. & Mrs. Olabode Gbadeyan, and pray to the almighty God to grant them the fortitude to bear the great loss.

The publications in the media since the past days have however been malicious. We do not credit the stories to anyone in particular as we understand the environment in which we live. At the risk of sounding immodest, we would ordinarily not have had any need to send a response but for the negative impression the news report has generated, together with the fear and great concerns expressed by our clients, associates and patients. We are therefore constrained to set the records straight, as follows:

1.        The patient was brought to the hospital at 6.05pm on Saturday 6th February 2016 with fever, vomiting, diarrhea and convulsion. He was also found to be pale and in coma and was registered as Master Oluwamurewa Gbadeyan. His parents introduced themselves as Mr. & Mrs. Olabode Gbadeyan of No. 12 Bosede Akinlaja Street, Giwa-Oke Aro, Ogun State, and were as such issued with a family card.

2.        The patient was immediately admitted without a demand for deposit or any preconditions whatsoever, except to have a formal registration process completed by his parents. Two Doctors were on hand to examine him at the time he was presented.

3.        Apart from the state of his condition as earlier explained, preliminary investigation revealed that the patient had been ill for about a week, and had been taken to a couple of hospitals prior to being brought to our Hospital.

4.        Patient was diagnosed with Sepsis and was immediately commenced on intravenous antibiotics, intravenous fluid and other medications. He was also supported with Oxygen, but regrettably patient passed away at 9.45pm (three hours forty minutes after he was admitted).

5.        Although, there were occasional public power outages while the patient was on admission in our facility, this was not the cause of the patient’s demise. The demise was also not as a result of an alleged delay in restoring power to our facility. It is evidently clear that we have two serviceable and functioning power generating sets (150kva and 85kva respectively) on standby. It took less than two minutes on each occasion to restore power to the facility.

6.        With respect to the allegation of the patient’s remains being improperly kept, we state categorically that it is not in our character to dehumanize even the death. The remains of the patient were in a dignifying manner preserved. Although the photographs shown in the media depicts otherwise, they were taken while our staff were taking the remains by trolley to the corpse preservation room pending removal to a morgue by his parents. Our staff had innocently allowed the parents and their friends take photographs of the patient as they claimed they needed to do so for records and proper identification sake when they returned for the remains. It is however unfortunate that the gesture is being used against the Hospital. Please also note that one of the photographs showing the patient seated on a lap (while still alive) was not taken in our facility.

7.        For emphasis, the patient was registered as Oluwamurewa Gbadeyan. We do not know him as baby Adewunmi, neither do we know his parents as Mr. & Mrs. Adewunmi.

Ayodele Medical Centre remains committed to its duty of providing diligent and professional healthcare services to all its patients. We shall continue to practice our trade professionally, ethically and diligently.
Once again, we commiserate with the parents of our patient on the loss.
Dated the 9th February 2016.
Thank you.

Man dumps his girlfriend on Valentine's day for cheating and he had plenty of evidence

Kyle Boggess from California set up an account on dating website, Plenty Of Fish, which he used to keep tabs on his girlfriend. She took the bait and agreed to meet up with the guy she had been chatting with on the site, unknown to her, it was her boyfriend Kyle. He presented the evidence to her in the form of a valentine card complete with flowers and he filmed the whole thing.

In the video, Kyle is seen guiding the woman up the stairs while her eyes are covered, he then tells her she should move the blindfold up so 'she can see a little bit'.
The room is covered with rose petals and a toy elephant is holding a card which reads 'Valentine's Day Sucks'. The boyfriend said: 'If I can't spend it with you, it definitely sucks'.

After she takes off the blindfold, he tells her there is still more to come. He said: 'It's a big surprise you're going to love it. You might be a little mad at me about it. I did something bad.'
The blonde woman is laughing along and Kyle tells her to put the blindfold back on so it will be a 'surprise'.

Kyle explained he made a card for her and told her to remove the blindfold to see a file with A4 paper inside, which Kyle claims were print-outs of her arranging dates on Plenty Of Fish.
Kyle said: 'That's you cheating on me, so get the f*** out of my house right now.
'I'm glad you took the car here for an hour for no good reason and this is going on YouTube sweetheart.'
The woman replied she didn't care and Kyle and his brother, who also filmed her reaction, call her a w**** and b**** repeatedly.
Kyle had created the Plenty Of Fish account himself after growing suspicious.
He claimed when he posted the video on Facebook: 'My "girlfriend" was being shady. I made a fake Plenty Of Fish account and she told that account she was single, had no luck with guys blah blah blah.'
He claimed she made plans with him over the fake profile.

In another video, filmed by Kyle's brother, the woman smiled and told him: 'I don't really care. It was a two-week relationship.'

Do you think he went too far? Who wants to be with a guy who is so insecure so as to spy on his partner in two-week-old relationship?

Princess Chineke's on-set attack: Chrystabel tells her own side of the story

Two days ago, actress Princess Chineke alleged that actress, Chrystabel Goddy attacked her on set and bit her so hard it tore her skin and thigh muscle right off. Chrystal wrote exclusively to LIB, telling her side of the story and sent in photos of her own supposed injuries. Read below...
Princess is a colleague whom I met on the set of a production. Out of respect to my contract, I shall refrain from naming the show. Despite her malicious and overbearing persona, I still tried to relate with her for purpose of the project that brought us together. I had complained about her untidy lifestyle and her troubles and even had to leave the room for another room when the original occupant had to leave for his home due to the fact that the hotel is noisy. On this day, the alternative room wasn't available to me and I had to put up with her in my room given to use to share. Prior to eventually sharing the room for the first time, I had told her that most times I get to relax after the day's job and activities later at night to respond to calls and text messages and that was just me prompting her out of courtesy and respect. Come on Linda, you have once shared a room with friends or sisters..If one isn't a bitter person, a phone call shouldn't offend you so much I mean especially if you can sleep in a hotel that has so much noise from the bar and she leaves the tv on! I turned it off the day I slept there.
So I was on the phone she was still awake laying her head and watching tv before she turned to sleep barely 5mins into her sleep, she wakes up yelling..i mean civil communication if honestly you're disturbed is fair enough but when I didn't respond, she turned on the music on her phone and to its loudest volume and put the phone right over my head, at this point I was so embarrassed. My friend who had called kept asking if everything was ok as he could hear her voice. I had to end the call. The following day I reported the issue.
Now , this day after the day's work. .We retired to our hotel and I only went downstairs to ask for help from the reception only for me to return to the room and she had moved to my side of the bed which we had agreed on that I stayed due to my phone calls and work. I write too and so I'm active on my phone hence my always busy mind. This is so much stress for me I've never been exposed in this way.
I asked her to please excuse me that I needed to lay my head after I had waited for her for about 15mins with my excuse for her been that she probably is going through messages she missed earlier unknown to me she'd had a fight upcoming. She responded bluntly saying that she's not moving from her spot. That it was hers before she gave it to me and I said exactly so it's no longer yours if you're not just a troublemaker. Princess is controlling and rude. She has a deep cut under her arm which she said was given to her by her cousin apparently this does tells how much of a problematic and incorrigible person she is. I have helped her to treat that deep cut and the production team bought her meds too.
On her response, I called the production manager to explain again that she's about to start again. When I dropped the phone, she started raining abuses on me and my family. She abused my dad at which point I lost control, because I lost my dad only just recently and the wound is still fresh in my heart. I held her mouth to cover it and make her shut up. She attacked me..scratching my face, neck and tearing the shirt I had on. She bit me on both hands and used her teeth to cut my gold bracelet. Upon this a senior colleague came in and separated us but when asked what happened she wouldn't explain without trying to make it juicy and insulting my family. I hold family dearly. I am a private person and I respect people's families too. She inflicted more injuries on me she pulled my natural hair a wig or weave. My natural hair...I have them here. I was advised not to lose them. Her bites on me are here i can send you pictures. Its unfortunate that she's looking for sympathy in trying to tarnish my name. The injury she sustained was out of defence and I have since apologized. An apology which she refused to acknowledge.
Regardless of the what had transpired, I still took the pain to apologise to her but apparently she's unforgiven and vengeful my only vengeance is this piece because God knows how to protect his own and I know that she intend to shame me bit it'd turn around for my fame. I won't be angry over the lesbian accusation. A clean heart fears none. I have never kissed a girl in my life. I would never think of going to blackmail an individual. Several folks have hurt me but life goes on. My consolation is that I've been on a few sets and there are folks who can attest to my conduct. However, I forgive her for this and I hold no grudge. I have apologised for the wound because I should have stayed I control and not get furious which is my first but we're humans and we all have our most stretched points. After a stressful day one doesn't need a troublemaker as a flat mate or roommate. I think that if my calls disturbed her as she claims she could ha e gotten herself a room as a big girl she had bragged to be. I don't complain about her calls. Even when she messes up the room, I quietly clean it and ensure the rest of the job is done by the housekeepers of the hotelSo coming out to seek sympathy is actually devilish. She almost killed me by pulling my hair and yet I apologised after I felt sad that I inflicted such pain. Every one who has worked with called to say it can't be me
This is what really happened.‎

Family speak on death of 6 months old baby at Lagos hospital, share photos of the boy's corpse left near waste bin

I already posted this story earlier but a source close to the family has sent in photos showing how the little's boys corpse was left outside near a waster bin after he died. The source also shared the story from the family's perspective. Read it and see more exclusive photos after the cut...

The baby still alive in the hospital

 The baby after he died
His corpse left outside near a waste bin

The waste bin
The hospital...

The story as told by a family member

This incident happened in a popular private hospital called Ayodele Hospital in Fagba off Iju Road.

The baby was brought to the hospital on Saturday February 6,2016. Before taking the boy to the hospital , he was taken to Ifako Ijaiye General hospital on Wednesday February 3, 2016 for treatment as a result of teething fever. The boy was apparently running high fever as a result of teething problem. At the General hospital he was given injection to bring down the temperature and after all was discharged. He was okay by our understanding then.

On Saturday morning the temperature started rising again. His wife took the baby back to the hospital and was told that there is no bed space. She was referred to Ayinke Hospital in Ikeja . Considering the distance and all the troubles so far, the father decided to take him to a big private hospital around. That was how the baby was taken to Ayodele in fagba.

At the private hospital he was admitted and they tried getting the vein in order to pass drip and to administer medication. They could not get the vein easily so they decided using the vein in the head . They started administering the drip . Not quite long, they told the parents that the baby is not breathing fine due to the catarrh he has and that they have to place him on oxygen.

After some hours, the light went off. They called the nurses to inform the gateman to put on the generator and for an hour the hospital did not respond accordingly . The baby gave up after gasping for breath. The parents watched their baby die for what could be avoided. The father was so traumatized that he was ready to pull down the hospital for such negligence and the placing of the baby at the waste bin as if it was a dog that died (see pictures attached). In the process policemen from Oko Oba were called in to arrest the father. Though he was released later. Despite all these negligence, the hospital is asking them to pay N38,000 before they can take the corpse for burial.

The parents are asking for justice. The death of their baby should not be swept under . Someone should pay for such wickedness .

The world need to know about this. This kind of hospitals should not be allowed to operate in a sane society. A life that could have been saved has just be lost. A future and hapless baby's life has been cut short on the altar of negligence .

Man gets down on one knee as if to propose then asks his girlfriend to make him tea (photos)

Cruel pranks abound but this one is sure to top the lot. For one bewildered girl, valentine couldn't have been more perfect when her boyfriend got down on one knee and whipped out a box, the moment almost every girl longs for, but the bloke then did something which would have been funny if it were not such a cruel prank, he asked her to make him tea.

Brad Holmes, 24 from Southampton, told his girlfriend Jenny Davies, 22, from Portsmouth, how happy she makes him. He can then be seen taking out a white box from his pocket in the footage which has been seen more than seven million times.

Jenny looks overcome with emotion as Brad goes down on one knee. But instead of asking her to marry him, he leaves her shocked by saying: 'Will you make me a cup of tea?'
Brad says Jenny forgave him 20mins later and he did get his tea. 'I grovelled for a bit and played it back to her and she saw the funny side. I got my cup of tea within 15 to 20 minutes.

'She was a bit annoyed about it but she knows what I'm like' he said.
The couple, who have been together for six months, can be seen sitting on the sofa with Jenny watching TV - and Brad flashes the white ring box at the camera without her spotting it.
He then gets up and positions his phone to film the moment, with Jenny asking: 'Why are you recording? What are you doing?'
Brad then gets down one knee and says: 'Basically, I'm a bit nervous. Give me your hand.'
Jenny can be seen taking his hand and looking emotional, putting her other hand to her head.
Brad says: 'You know you make me the happiest man in the world. I'm shaking but I love you to bits, you know that, right?
'I want you to make me the happiest man in the world. I have got a question to ask you.'
Brad has the small jewellery box in his hands and it's all too much for Jenny, who now has both hands to her mouth.
There's more suspense when Brad is unable to open the box.
But when he does, he asks: 'Will you make me a cup of tea?'
And instead of a big diamond ring, the box contains nothing more than a tea bag.
Jenny appears to be less than impressed - as she grabs the box and throws it to the floor.
She storms out of the room screaming: 'Are you f****** joking.
'You horrible little ****.'
Brad revealed he had told Jenny he will propose this year, which is why Brad said she 'genuinely believed it.'

He said: 'She knows it's coming but she doesn't know when.'
Jenny had it coming, knowing he will propose this year, she thought Valentine's day was just perfect for the occasion, Brad told her it wouldn't be on valentine and that calmed her down, but the guy had already set up for the cruellest valentine prank ever.
'I calmed down when he told me "I wouldn't do it like that".
'I was in my pyjamas sat on the sofa. I thought after I was glad it hadn't happened like that, not to be ungrateful' Jenny said
Although Jenny admitted she began to cry when Brad got down on one knee, but she said: 'Brad didn't mean to hurt or upset me in the video.'
Jenny described her ideal proposal as romantic and traditional and would be happy as long as Brad asked her nana and grandad, who she lives with, for permission first.
Since the video was posted, it has been viewed 7.7 million times on Brad's Facebook page.
