Photos: 19-year-old student stabs footballer boyfriend to death after he posted photo of another woman on Facebook.

A 19-year-old University of Nairobi student has been arrested by Police in Nairobi for allegedly killing her boyfriend and father of her unborn child on Tuesday, March 15, following a domestic quarrel at their home in Kangemi.

Kelvin Mugalla Ikatwa, 25, a Bachelor of Arts student at the University of Nairobi and midfielder for the National Super League side, Wazito FC who was fondly known as Razor, was allegedly stabbed to death by Sheila Atemi with a kitchen knife after they had a disagreement over a Facebook post.
According to Nairobi News, it is believed the spat was over a photo of another female posted by the deceased on his Fabook page.
According to Nairobi County Police Commander Japheth Koome, who confirmed the incident, "When the Police arrived, they found the man already dead and the woman was sitting next to the body of the deceased. He had been stabbed in the neck and the knife was also found at the scene."
The body was deposited at the Chiromo Mortuary awaiting pot-mortem as the police conduct investigations. Koome said the suspect was due to be arraigned in court and will be charged with murder.
"The girl has been arrested and is in custody. She will go to court for the wrong she has committed," Koome said.
She was arraigned before a Kibera court on Wednesday. The police asked the court to give them more time to complete investigations. They also told the court they intend to take her for mental examination.
In a press statement, the University of Nairobi’s Wazito Football Club, mourned him as a polished midfielder who was disciplined and committed player since joining the team from Tena FC in 2012.
"Kelvin held Wazito in his heart and gave his all for the betterment of the club and his professional growth," the club added.
Head coach Francis Xavier, described Mugalla as a quality and professional footballer who had what it takes to play for the national team.
"This is a huge loss. We are depending on him to drive our midfield this season. I think he was on the verge of a breakthrough to a Kenyan Premier League team. In a season or two, he would have been Harambee Stars material," Xavier said.
He further revealed that they got the shocking news just as they were preparing for training.
"A Kangemi United player who lives nearby called me to confirm the sad news. Everyone was in shock and we stopped the training."
The club patron Solomon Alubala said: "He was not a temperamental person and when you see it getting to this point, then it must have been something very serious. We are saddened as a team but we will not say much because it is now in the hands of the police," Alubala disclosed.
Family and friends of Kelvin Mugalla are meeting at his home in Kangemi for burial arrangements. Condolences to the family were also shared by Sports Commissioner Gordon Olioch.
"I advise the youth to seek advice on their social problems from older siblings, close relatives and religious leaders. In the worse case scenerio you can quit the relationship".

Cancel that spectrum licence issued to MTN

This is a sponsored post By Daniel Adoza.

These are interesting times for the Nigerian telecoms networks and their subscribers. While we are still on the sale of Visafone and its 4G LTE spectrum to MTN Nigeria, yet another controversy is brewing.
Before he was sacked as Director General of the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), Emeka Mba had sanctioned the sale of the 700MHz spectrum – to the same telecommunications network, MTN Nigeria.

What bothers discerning stakeholders in the telecoms sector is the fact that NBC did not have the right to sell the spectrum which it has been directed to vacate. Rather, that is the responsibility of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the regulator of the telecommunications industry, which is also given the powers to assign spectrum to telecommunications service providers.

These are some of the grave implications of this wrong action.

·        MTN now has more facilities to continue to dominate the Nigerian telecoms sector, killing competition and leaving subscribers with little or no choice.

·         By not keeping to NCC’s policy of granting spectrums on fair and equitable basis, NBC has placed other competitors in a disadvantaged position thus stifling further growth of the industry. All over the world – and also previously in Nigeria – spectrums are publicly auctioned. But this is not the case in the sale of the 700MHz band by NBC to MTN; thus the interest of both foreign and local investors in the Nigerian telecoms industry will begin to wane as they can no longer trust our regulatory agencies to make wholesale decision to provide a fair playing field for their investments to thrive.

The Nigerian telecommunications subscriber must not be allowed to suffer a disadvantage by this anti-competitive decision of the NBC. What has made the Nigerian telecoms industry grow faster than it was envisaged is the vivacity and the diverse options and innovation which were driven by competition. We can’t afford to lose that now.

In the interest of stakeholders in the industry and the Nigerian economy, the Federal Government should order the NBC to cancel this transaction and release the 700MHz spectrum to NCC in line with the ITU agreement.

South London Church Fined over Loud Early Morning Services

A South London Church has been fined thousands of pounds for holding noisy 3am services aimed at fending off 'evil spirits, deliverance from sickness, financial hardship and demonic soul ties.'

Magistrates have ordered the leaders of Camberwell’s Kingdom Church, a branch of the Bishop Climate Ministries, to pay £7,740.50. This happened after the Southwark Council was flooded with complaints from nearby residents about the services every Saturday morning.

Church leaders were slapped with the fine at Camberwell Magistrates Court after being found guilty of two charges under Section 80 of the Environmental Protection Act 1980. The church has however decided to appeal the fine. A spokesman said, "It is a big fine and we will be appealing against it. I do not deny that we made some noise – we did. Buhari’s economic retreat starts on Monday

An economic retreat convened by the present administration to offer solutions to the current economic challenges facing Nigeria will hold on Monday and Tuesday next week.
The retreat, being put together by the National Economic Council, which has the 36 state governors as members and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo as chairman, will hold in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to a statement on Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice-President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, President Muhammadu Buhari will deliver the keynote address during the retreat’s opening session on Monday.
Akande said Osinbajo, being the chairman of NEC, which is an advisory body to the President, would preside over the retreat with governors from the 36 states of the federation attending.
Others expected at the meeting, according to the statement, are the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele; and the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udo Udoma, among other top government functionaries.
The statement reads, “The objective of the NEC retreat is to provide a forum for in-depth discussions by NEC members of the policy actions that the states and the Federal Government can consider in order to stimulate local production, cut costs and enhance public revenues among other measures to stimulate the economy.
“Contrary to suggestions, the retreat is not an emergency national economic conference.
“The idea was mooted at the last regular NEC meeting in January, where members requested an intensive session to review economic trends and evolve strategies to cope.”
The retreat, which was earlier fixed for March 10 and 11, was later put off to allow for more preparations on the part of the organisers.
Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, had called on the President to summon an emergency economic meeting to chart a course to save the country from further drift.
Soyinka, who made the call when he visited the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Abuja, had said experts and consumers should be invited to the meeting.
“The President should call an emergency economic conference, with experts to be invited; consumers, producers, labour unions, university experts, professors, etc. I think we really need an emergency economic conference, a rescue operation, bringing as many heads as possible together to plot the way forward,” Soyinka had said.
Meanwhile, Buhari said the current economic crisis, plaguing the nation, was a blessing in disguise.
Buhari said this at the opening ceremony of the International Islamic Conference on Peace and Nation Building in Abuja on Thursday.
The President said through the hardship, Nigerians would be able to come up with ideas that would in turn lead to development.
He said, “The global economic challenges the world is grappling with today might well turn out to be a blessing for us in Nigeria, because it will stimulate the latent economic opportunities that we have left untapped for decades.
“Poverty breeds disaffection, which in turn leads to crime and lawlessness, including confrontation against the state. To checkmate this, we must work hard to lift our economy, engage our youths and rebuild infrastructure.’’
Buhari lamented the level of official corruption in the nation, adding that it led to many years of hardship for Nigerians. He, however, promised to do everything possible to curb the menace.
While declaring the conference open, the President commended the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa Iqamatis Sunna and the Muslim World League for the event at a time when the nation was grappling with insecurity.
Buhari, who described Boko Haram as a mindless terrorist organisation, said the Federal Government was winning the fight against insurgency.
He said once the war was over, the government would commission a sociological study to determine the origin, the remote and immediate causes of the movement, its sponsors, its international connections if any, to ensure that measures were taken to prevent a resurgence.
The President added, “The tragic paradox of the global insurgency situation is that most of the atrocities committed by various insurgents all over the world today are being carried out mainly by people who pretend to be Muslims, yet most of the victims and casualties are equally Muslims.
“No religion approves of such heinous crimes against humanity; definitely not Islam or Christianity, the two to which most Nigerians belong.
“Religious leaders must intensify their efforts to send out the real teachings of their religion in order to counter the diabolical ideology that motivates the insurgent elements.”

CCT’ll rule on Saraki’s motion to dismiss charges March 24

The Code of Conduct Tribunal has fixed March 24 for ruling on a motion by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, seeking to quash the charges of false assets declaration preferred against him.
The Danladi Umar-led tribunal fixed the date for ruling after entertaining arguments for and against the motion.
Saraki’s lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), argued that the tribunal lacked jurisdiction to entertain the charges, on among other grounds, that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice lacked the powers to file charges before the tribunal.
He also argued that the failure of the Code of Conduct Bureau to invite Saraki to confront him with the breaches in his assets declaration form was fatal to the validity of the charges.
But the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), urged the tribunal to dismiss the motion, as same constituted an abuse of court process.
He described the motion as absurd and ridiculous on the basis that Saraki had initially in a similar motion argued up to the Supreme Court level, contended that the charges were incompetent for being filed at a time the office of the AGF was vacant.
The Supreme Court in its judgment on Saraki’s earlier objection to the trial affirmed the validity of the charges and the jurisdiction of the tribunal.
Saraki was represented by 80 lawyers at the Friday’s proceedings while the prosecution by 10.
