Oscar Pistorius' murder case trial begins today as psychologist tells court 'he's a broken man' who shouldn't be jailed'

South African athlete Oscar Pistorius, convicted of the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp is a 'broken man who shouldn't be jailed', a psychologist has told the court at his murder case trial going on today.
The 29 year old athlete faces a minimum 15-year sentence in a case that has prompted a fierce debate in South Africa, a country beset by high levels of violent crime. Some rights groups say the 'white' athlete has received preferential treatment and would have been punished severely if he were black.

Germany opened their Euro 2016 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Ukraine in Lille.

Shkodran Mustafi scored his first international goal and Bastian Schweinsteiger struck late on as world champions Germany opened their Euro 2016 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Ukraine in Lille.

Jerome Boateng cleared a Yevhen Konoplyanka effort off the goal-line before the break as Ukraine enjoyed their best period of the match.
But Joachim Low's men had much more control in the second half, with Toni Kroos hitting the crossbar before substitute Schweinsteiger made the game safe as he netted his first Germany goal in almost five years within three minutes of his introduction.

After losing three of their five matches since a shaky qualification campaign, three points on matchday one – even in unspectacular fashion – will come as a relief to Low ahead of their crucial clash with Poland on Thursday.

Germany make positive Euro start

Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger came off the bench to score his first international goal in five years and seal a perfect start to the world champions' Euro 2016 campaign with a 2-0 win over Ukraine. Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi powered home the opener from Toni Kroos's free-kick after just 19 minutes of Sunday's game in Lille.
German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer then made a fine save from Yevhen Khacheridi and Jerome Boateng made a spectacular clearance off his own line as Ukraine pressed for an equaliser.
However, Schweinsteiger, who had played just 23 minutes since tearing a knee ligament in March, needed just three minutes to make an impact as he slammed home Mesut Ozil's low cross deep into stoppage time.
"I ran so hard in the celebrations that I'm a bit out of breath still," the Manchester United midfielder told ARD.
"It was amazing for that to happen, it's the kind of thing you can only wish for, but the most important thing is the team wins."
Next up for Germany is a heated battle for top spot in Group C with neighbours Poland on Thursday in Paris after the Poles overcame Northern Ireland 1-0 thanks to Arkadiusz Milik's strike earlier on Sunday.
World Cup-winning coach Joachim Loew had to name a makeshift back line due to a series of defensive injuries, and that instability was exposed as Neuer kept Ukraine at bay in an entertaining opening 45 minutes.
The giant Bayern Munich goalkeeper flew to his right to turn Sevilla winger Yevhen Konoplyanka's curling effort behind after a slip from Mustafi after just five minutes.
However, the absence of the injured Mats Hummels and Antonio Ruediger played into German hands for the opening goal as Mustafi made the most of his chance to start in their absence with a bullet header from Kroos's free-kick

Gunfire erupted at a gay nightclub in Orlando early on Sunday, causing mass casualties before one suspected gunman was found dead inside, police said.

Many injured at Florida gay club shooting (NOT pictured).

Police said in a Twitter message that there were "multiple injuries". Local media reported that from seven to as many as 20 people had been shot at the Pulse nightclub, but had no further details.
The nightclub urged patrons to "get out" and "keep running" in a post on its Facebook page.
Several patrons had posted on social media that a gunman was holed up inside and holding hostages. One man who said he was inside the club posted that the shooting broke out around 2 a.m. and that he heard about 40 shots being fired.
Police said they had carried out a "controlled explosion" at the club hours after the shooting broke out, but did not say why that was done. They described the scene as a "fluid situation".
Video posted online showed a large number of police and emergency vehicles outside the nightclub. Bomb sniffing dogs were also on the scene, CNN reported.
The nightclub shooting occurred just a day after a man thought to be a deranged fan fatally shot Christina Grimmie, a rising singing star who gained fame on YouTube and as a contestant on "The Voice", while she was signing autographs after a concert in Orlando
